Working with four simple motifs, as illustrated left, this piece soon leaves the confines of traditional notation as the start point of each note moves in time, while its pitch remains unchanged.
As illustrated on the right, the start position moves to the left and right of its original start time, first appearing a little earlier than usual, followed by a little later. The amount by which the note moves starts small, and increases as the music progresses. This offset is controlled by a sine wave of ever-growing amplitude, and is different for each note.
By bar five, the first of the four notes is out of phase by such as degree that it harmonizes with the second and third notes of the other parts.
